政教合一，也就是宗教為政治服務，是關係逆轉。宗教被政治扭曲，道德淪亡，社會的集體行為也違反普世價值。

中古時代政教合一的歐洲封建社會，農奴和貴族是世襲身份；農奴要由庶民進身貴族，唯一的途徑，就是參與宗教戰爭。當然，不排除參戰的人，有人是出於實際利益的考慮，也有人是因為信仰身份而戰。
