財經傳媒不時用上「見光死」這字眼，意思大都是關於公司宣布的業績，達不到投資者的期望。未見到業績之前，公司憑未經證實傳聞炒作，可能係威係勢，但當期望變為事實，混濁變為光明。見光死現象應該屬於正面，起碼投資者重視業績。

業績可分為兩部分：盈利（或虧損）和未能即時量化的業務狀況。盈利是一個數字，投資者對業績感失望，通常是關於這個數字。投資者專注分析一個數字，有其好處，因為所有人都看得明白；令投資者混淆，通常是數字背後的故事。分析盈利另一個好處是，盈利很大程度上已經吸取（ capture）了公司營運情況，包括好消息和壞消息。即是說，公司未能即時量化的狀況，其實或多或少已經反映在盈利的計算。使用一個所有投資者皆同意和明白的數字，沒有比盈利更好。
