1995年 男主角Rust Cohle(Matthew McConaughey)和Martin Hart(Woody Harrelson)的生活

因為一件連環凶殺案而交織在一起

Cohle警探曾經是負責毒品案件的臥底偵探 並患有嚴重的妄想症 他不擅社交

但對自己的職責有著很深的執著

Hart警探是一個酒鬼 喜歡風花雪月愛在女人堆裡打滾 但是在工作上喜歡照規劇辦事

一名妓女Dora Lange被人殺害 調查後得知兇手是一個狡猾聰明的連續犯

他沒有連下任何線索證據 警方對此案束手無策案件一拖就是17年

在2012年警方發現新事證 決定重啟調查 Dora Lange的兇殺案

當年一起合作的Rust和Martin再次攜手 當兩人以為那段黑暗歷史已經過去時

命運再次將兩人結合在一起  兩人必須先瞭解彼此才能瞭解兇手

他們的關係受到嚴格的考驗 就連彼此的家庭也牽連進這場考驗
