基本上「耆那教」與「佛教」差不多古老，
請看底下的介紹：

耆那教是由大雄（Mahavira，馬哈比拉）所創，生存年代在西元前５９９－５２７年，與佛陀同時代。大雄生於印度河流域，屬於印度剎帝利階級，具有王子身份。他３０歲出家，成為居無定所的苦行僧。在苦行１２年後獲得證悟，稱為『耆那』（意為勝利者）。後來，大雄收了１２位弟子，他們將大雄教法彙編成經典，並著手建立教團，以恆河流域為主要傳布發展地區，『摩揭陀國』的『那爛陀城』便是耆那教的中心。
