for me, the only reason to visit the place was to have seafood. It tastes so good that not even Tsukiji can compare (Tsukiji lovers, this is not personal. I just weight it on my own subjective happiness scale ). But I had company, and they haven't been to Hakodate before, so I had the perfect excuse that I'll show them around, and there we went, taking a 3.5 hours train from Sapporo to this small bay town.

A late dinner at 大門横丁, we chose a ramen shop and saw newspaper clips about this shop inside. It's been there for more than 6000 days with no day off!! The owner seemed to know all his customers and the 大腸拉麵 was real good.
